Olson 30 Wins Solo Transpacific Yacht Race in a Non-Spinnaker Year

August 04, 2018 by Mark Jensen in Sailing

Reading Christine Weaver’s (Weaver 2018) article on Philippe Jamotte winning the 2018 Solo Transpac on his Olson 30 Double Espresso brought back many fine memories. I was lucky enough to crew on an Olson 30 on Lake Travis, Texas and the Gulf of Mexico.

In the same issue, Skip Allan (Allan 2018) compares the pros and cons of sailing the Singlehanded TransPac along the rhumb line or great circle route. He refers to this years winner, Philipe Jamotte and his Olson 30, in his examination.
